History of Stun Gun
Allow me, for a moment, to paint a picture in your mind. You are in a plane flying to your destination when suddenly someone attempts to hijack the plane. The job of the sky marshal would be to stop the hijacker, but shooting this person with a gun would be unwise. Potentially, the bullet could tear a hole in the plane, causing the plane to depressurize and most likely crash. This scenario is what inspired Jack Cover to invent the stun gun.
Jack Cover was a NASA scientist who served in the military in his youth as an Air Force test pilot in World War II. This is likely where he realized that there would be a need for a non-lethal weapon that could incapacitate an individual. If this device were to be made, putting down the hijacker in the previous scenario would be much easier and in countless other areas of use.
However, Jack Cover did not manage to create this device for years until he read a newspaper article about a man who survived a run-in with an electric fence. “When he read what had happened, he knew an electric current could be used without danger,” said his wife after his death in 2009.
The stun gun has evolved from its original rustic design. When the device was originally invented, it used gun powder in its mechanics, preventing public use. As a result, only the police made use of it in the 1980s. But as time passed, gun powder became outdated, and they improved the design of the stun gun for efficiency. Now, the stun gun is much more discrete, more powerful, and much safer than it originally was.
WHY DO I NEED A STUN GUN?
There are various applications of a stun gun for self defense. A few applications have been detailed below:
Personal Safety Applications - The truth is, even as civilians, there is always some threat of assault of one kind or the other, especially when we are in public. A stun gun provides those who seek to protect themselves with the option of subduing their assailants without having to take their life.
Many of us are especially vulnerable to attacks, and although children are not allowed to carry such weapons, women and the elderly would be much safer and feel more confident if they carried with them a defense this powerful and reliable.
Police Applications - The men and women who serve as police officers of the country put their lives on the line every time they answer the call to enforce the law. However, there are several instances where lethal force is not necessary.
Military Applications - The stun gun is also incredibly useful in the army, as it is perfect for subduing individuals in war and war-like situations without lethal force. Military personnel are often trained in the use of stun guns for this very reason.
Armed Security Applications - Proper use of the stun gun saves many lives daily by stopping people from harming themselves and others. Working as an armed security officer is no easy task; these men and women will often find themselves with the lives of many in their protection. The use of stun guns in this line of work helps to stay the chaos that sometimes ensues without fatally injuring or killing the individual.

Tactical Stun Baton
The tactical stun baton is a famous stun gun, especially among military and law enforcement personnel. But, by far, the most efficient stun baton on the market is the Police Force 12,000,000 Tactical Stun Baton Flashlight.
Jolt Protector 60,000,000 HD Stun Gun
The Jolt Protector 60,000,000 HD Stun Gun is a practical weapon, especially for personal use and protection. Like the Police Force Stun Baton, the Jolt Protector has a bright flashlight that enables users to see their target. In addition, it is quite portable and is activated by simply squeezing it in your fist, saving seconds of precious time in a potential assault scenario.
Jolt 95,000,000 Tactical Flashlight
The Jolt 95,000,000 Tactical Flashlight is a brilliant weapon that acts as a piercing flashlight and powerful stun weapon. It carries the advantage of disguise, as it is not obviously a stun weapon at a glance. This particular model is much more powerful than many others in the market.
Slider 10 Million Volt Stun Gun Flashlight
It doesn’t get much more compact than the Slider 10 million volt stun gun flashlight. At 3 ½” x 1” x 1/2”, the slider is incredibly portable and accessible and yet packs a heavy punch. Its discrete slide mechanic is quick and releases 4.9 milliamperes of electricity to discourage any assault.
STUN GUN ACCESSORIESActually there are special accessories for a stun gun other than the pouches some people prefer to buy.
STUN GUN RATING SYSTEM
There are many misleading outlets out there that claim certain voltages for their devices. Because stun guns are not government regulated, it is easy for companies to mislead the public. But you should know that the correct measure of a stun gun is in micro-coulombs, not voltage.
The first question that needs to be answered is, ‘are stun guns legal?’. The answer is yes. However, there are a few states where owning or possessing stun guns is illegal, such as Hawaii, Rhode Island, and U.S. Virgin Islands. In the other 48 states of the U.S., stun guns are perfectly legal on the condition that the individual who is to possess them is not a minor, has no felony record, and only uses them in self-defense.
The regulation of stun guns depends on the definition given to it by the particular state. For example, the state of Iowa’s weapons laws defines the stun gun as a dangerous weapon, allowing adults specifically to carry them (stun guns) without a permit.
Other states define stun guns differently, putting them under the general laws that regulate carrying, possession, use of guns, etc. For example, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin are some states where a license is required to own a stun gun. If you want to determine whether possession, use, or carrying of a stun gun is permissible in the state you reside in, it is best to contact your local law enforcement office or visit your state website.
OBSOLETE STUN GUNS
It is important that when purchasing any stun gun, you do not buy one that will not be effective for your purpose. As previously mentioned, the level of charge that causes unbearable pain is above 1μC. In addition, certain charge levels are often not enough to subdue the individual due to adrenaline levels and other chemical activities. Because of this, buying a stun gun with a charge level too low could be quite dangerous.
The tasers made by Jack Cover were fired using gun powder, which meant they were considered firearms. Nowadays, gunpowder is no longer used, and neither is it recommended. These models are severely outdated, and it would be a mistake to try and make use of them.
